Path of Building

Find all our recommended gear from the comfort of Path of Building, available here

Included in the Path of Building are skill trees, all gem links and possible variations, and an example set of mid-level gear with room for upgrades. For simplicity’s sake, Elemental Resistances are not included on gear, and you can fill them in as you like depending on available gear.

We use the Path of Building Community Fork for all of our builds, which is highly recommended. If you are encountering errors importing the build, please ensure you are using the Community Fork.

Gear Summary / TL;DR

These items strike a balance between power and cost-effectiveness. If you want to explore more options for Gear (both budget and high-end), Flasks, or get more information on alternatives and specialty items, please ensure you read the Gear, Jewels, and Flasks section in its entirety.

Our recommendation:

Item Slot Item Name
Head Rare Helmet Evasion/Armour Base
Amulet Rare Amulet (Turquoise Amulet Turquoise Amulet is ideal)
Chest Rare chest piece with high life, maximum life , Spell Suppresion ( can be bench crafted) and + base crit chance for attacks
Gloves Rare Spiked Gloves Spiked Gloves or Evasion/Armour, here we can get a lot of value from a rare, especially with the free intimidate from Eldritch Influence. In that case the implicit from Spiked Gloves doesn’t matter
Boots Rare Boots Evasion/Armour- We want Brittle here from Searing Exarch’s Eldritch influence, the Eater Of Worlds is your choice / whatever you can get
Belt Rare Ryslatha's Coil Ryslatha's Coil
Rings Rare Rings
Weapon Rare Judgement Staff Judgement Staff

For crafting Rare items, you can check out all the affixes that can roll on an item base, depending on its level, influence, and many other factors using Craft Of Exile.

Gear, Jewels, and Flasks

Having at least one item that helps you sustain Mana can be convenient, especially if you do not have Enlighten Support Enlighten Support at Level 3 or 4. If you are not using Atziri's Acuity Atziri's Acuity then this is easiest to obtain on your Rare Gloves, however, you can see the Rings section for alternatives. With Enlighten Support Enlighten Support at Level 4 you may find this is unnecessary altogether, however, you should try this for yourself before committing to any decisions.

Make sure to cap your accuracy ! You will lose a ton of damage if you aren’t at 100% chance to hit!

Armour

Chest

Rare Triumphant Lamellar Triumphant Lamellar is the best option to still be able to get Spell Suppression

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistance
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % to Suppress Spell Damage
  4. Attacks have % to Critical Strike Chance
  5. You can apply an Additional Curse(Hunter Influence)

Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast is a cheaper and highly effective alternative. One of the upsides of Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast is just how cheap it is all the way throughout a league.

Helmet

Rare Helmet Evasion/Armour Base

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistance
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % to Suppress Spell Damage

Abyssus Abyssus is actually disgustingly strong in certain situations, despite the increased Physical damage taken. For bosses in particular, such as Uber Elder or Shaper, this item will increase your damage by millions upon millions in the late game. While it is not a default recommendation, we mention it simply because it can take your damage to absolutely hilarious heights and allow you to do some really silly things on softcore.

Gloves

Rare Spiked Gloves Spiked Gloves or Evasion/Armourare perfect here; here we can get a lot of value from a rare, especially with the free intimidate from Eldritch Influence. In that case the implicit from Spiked Gloves doesn’t matter

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistance
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % to Suppress Spell Damage
  4. Attributes as needed
  5. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistance
  6. % Increased Attack Speed
  7. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks
  8. +# to Accuracy

Boots

Rare Boots Evasion/Armour- We want Brittle here from Searing Exarch’s Eldritch influence, the Eater Of Worlds is your choice / whatever you can get|

Prioritize the affixes as follows:

  1. % Increased Movement Speed (25%+)
  2. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistance
  3. +# to Maximum Life
  4. % to Suppress Spell Damage
  5. Attributes as needed
If you don’t want any other influences and don’t need resistances from implicits, Brittle from Searing Exarch influence is beyond insane and will almost instantly cap your crit.

Weapon

Since this build relies heavily on Critical Strike, Staves are preferred over Axes.

In the late game, a Rare Judgement Staff Judgement Staff will be the best option. Only one Attack Speed suffix should be taken. Prioritize stats as follows:

  1. (Crafted) Chance to Impale/% Increased Physical Damage
  2. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks
  3. % Increased Physical Damage / +# to Accuracy
  4. % (Veiled) Blood Rage/Increased Attack Speed
  5. % Increased Critical Strike Multiplier
  6. % Increased Critical Strike Chance

There are many other reasonable and powerful combinations; feel free to ask for advice in the comments as needed. Be sure to compare in Path of Building before making major investments.

Accessories

Amulet

Daresso's Salute Daresso's Salute is a great amulet for Cyclone Cyclone and is obtainable for relatively cheap prices. The movement speed is delicious and a great boost to clear speed, as is the area of effect and damage on full life. This should be a relatively early pickup as it is so strong.

A Rare Amulet, preferably an Turquoise Amulet Turquoise Amulet to help with attribute limitations, is the best choice for flat out damage. Prioritize stats as follows:

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistances
  2. +# to Maximum Life
  3. % Increased Global Critical Strike Multiplier
  4. (Crafted) % increased Damage while Leeching
  5. (Veiled) % increased Melee Damage/+2 to Melee Strike Range
  6. % Increased Global Critical Strike Chance

Rings

Rare Rings are best for this build. Diamond Ring Diamond Rings and Steel Ring Steel Rings offer the best damage as you might expect, but Resistance rings are helpful for capping your Elemental Resistances, and Amethyst Rings for Chaos Resistance

Prioritize stats as follows:

  1. [Uncapped] Elemental Resistances
  2. Channeling Skills Have -3 to Total Mana Cost (Basically a necessity on both rings — if you can’t acquire these you need Mana leech somewhere on gear)
  3. +# to Maximum Life
  4. +# to Accuracy
  5. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks
  6. % Increased Damage
  7. One ring with Curse Enemies with Vulnerability on Hit

Belt

Ryslatha's Coil Ryslatha's Coil is by far our best belt if you can fit it in and still be Resistance capped and meet attribute requirements.

Headhunter Headhunter is exceptional for this builds clearing ability and can be a whole lot of fun. It is not recommended unless all your major slots are fully upgraded, but if you want to go wild and at crazy speeds it can be effectively used by this build.

Jewels

Standard Jewels

This build uses Standard Jewels (Crimson Jewel Crimson Jewel and Viridian Jewel Viridian Jewel primarily) over Abyss Jewels, as they are simply better in every respect. Prioritize stats as follows:

  1. % Increased Maximum Life
  2. % to Critical Strike Multiplier with Two-Handed Melee Weapons
  3. % to Melee Critical Strike Multiplier
  4. % Increased Global Critical Strike Multiplier
  5. % Increased Attack Speed
  6. % Increased Damage

Resistances, attributes or any other helpful damage mods, are perfectly fine to work in as well!

Cluster Jewel(s)

We want to use 2 Large clusters here and 1 Medium Cluster

One Large 12% increased Damage with Two Handed Weapons with Brutal Infamy, Feed the Fury, and Martial Prowess
One Large Staff Attacks deal 12% increased Damage with Hits and Ailments with Devastator, Martial Prowess, and Overlord
One Medium 15% increased Critical Strike Chance with Pressure Points and Quick Getaway

Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye

The Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye is the literal “crown Jewel” and one of the last and most luxurious upgrades any build can make. Unfortunately, they can be extraordinarily expensive and an entirely unrealistic acquisition for the majority of players. For that reason, we left Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye out of all our DPS calculations, but if you have deep moneybags, you could push the build to new limits.

The Pride Pride mods are all pretty amazing, but you would prioritize them as follows:

  1. (8-12)% chance to deal Double Damage while using Pride
  2. Impales you inflict last 2 additional Hits while using Pride
  3. (40-60)% increased Attack Physical Damage while using Pride
  4. Your Hits Intimidate Enemies for 4 seconds while you are using Pride
  5. 25% chance to Impale Enemies on Hit with Attacks while using Pride
Be aware that these mods can shift in value depending on your level of gear; the double damage mod, for example, has significantly lower value in low levels of gear and Attack Speed. Check in Path of Building before making any significant purchases.
  1. If possible the Purity of Elements Purity of Elements modifier %chaos resistance while using Purity of Elements is huge survivability

Flasks

Below are the options for flasks this build can make use of. Feel free to swap out Flasks or Prefixes/Suffixes to suit your preferred style of play, as there are no real “mandatory” flasks for this build.

Bottled Faith Bottled Faith – Great bit of crit chance but not necessary. Can also run Physician’s Diamond Flask Diamond Flask of Incision (in place of Bottled Faith)
  1. Lion's Roar Lion's Roar – This flask has been nerfed repeatedly but is still an good more damage multiplier.
  2. Seething Divine Life Flask Divine Life Flask Alleviation
  3. Surgeon’s Granite Flask Granite Flask of the Armadillo
  4. Surgeon’s Silver Flask Silver Flask of the Penguin
